The New Hyundai Tucson

Takes on the New Toyota RAV4 & Honda CR-V

Meet the New Hyundai Tucson in Boise, ID

Any compact SUV will suit drivers well, but the Hyundai Tucson is the right one to take home. Stacked against compact crossover competitors like the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, the Hyundai Tucson stands tall with its efficient performance, substantial space, and advanced technology

Hyundai Tucson vs. Toyota RAV4

Performance

Idaho drivers get better traction with the Tucson, thanks to HTRAC AWD. While the RAV4 offers all-wheel drive, it's only optional. The RAV4 can switch between Multi-Terrain Select drive modes, but there's no exclusive all-wheel drive system like the robust HTRAC.

Base models for each SUV offer just under 30 city miles per gallon and nearly 35 miles per gallon for highway driving. Boise motorists can drive either crossover as a gas, hybrid, or plug-in hybrid model.

The Plug-In Hybrid variants for the Hyundai and Toyota SUV offer all-electric ranges of more than 30 miles. Hyundai Tucson and Toyota RAV4 hybrids both achieve 38 highway miles per gallon.

Base models for both SUVs rely on a 2.5-liter inline-4 engine, with Hyundai's producing 187 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque. The Hyundai Tucson's hybrid model features a superior turbocharged engine that the Toyota RAV4 doesn't offer.

Space

Both SUVs seat five passengers, but the Hyundai Tucson provides motorists with more storage. The Tucson features 38.7 cubic feet of storage and a total cargo capacity of 80.3 cubic feet, surpassing respective RAV4 figures of 37.5 and 69.8 cubic feet.

Safety & Tech

Standard tech on the Hyundai Tucson includes wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The RAV4's music compatibility isn't wireless, and the display is only seven inches.

Both SUVs offer Qi-compatible wireless charging, navigation, digital keys, and premium audio systems (JBL® on RAV4; Bose on Tucson). The Toyota RAV4's largest screen at nine inches is smaller than the Hyundai Tucson's 10.25-inch display that's part of a futuristic interface. The Toyota RAV4 can't top the Hyundai Tucson's Multi-Air Mode climate control technology.

In addition to Hyundai SmartSense, the Tucson offers Remote Smart Parking Assist and Parking-Collision Avoidance Assist. The RAV4 offers the Toyota Safety Sense™ suite, but Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert isn't standard.

Hyundai Tucson vs. Honda CR-V

Performance

Drivers can tow 2,000 pounds in the Hyundai Tucson, compared to 1,500 pounds in the Honda CR-V. We understand there's places you want to bring your Tucson, so we made sure you don't have to leave any cargo behind.

The Honda CR-V earns 28/34 (city/highway) miles per gallon, but there's no hybrid or PHEV model. Gas-powered Hyundai Tucson models earn 26/33 miles per gallon, while Hybrid models offer 38 miles per gallon on Boise highways, far exceeding that of a gas model. Plug-In Hybrid Hyundai Tucson SUVs give motorists 33 miles of all-electric driving.

Space

Each compact SUV comfortably seats five passengers. The Honda CR-V offers 39.2 cubic feet of storage to the Hyundai Tucson's 38.7 cubic feet, but Hyundai's SUV offers more max cargo volume, 80.3 cubic feet to 75.8.

Safety & Tech

The Honda CR-V doesn't include standard Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, and there's only a 5-inch touchscreen on base model. Boise motorists can enjoy standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ on the Hyundai Tucson, which also features navigation, wireless charging, Bluelink® Connected Car System, and Hyundai Digital Key.

The CR-V's Honda Sensing® safety suite offers several driver assists, but a Blind Spot Information System is not standard. The Tucson's Hyundai SmartSense offers more driver aides, including Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist with Rear Cross-Traffic, Highway Driving Assist, Lane Following/Keeping Assist, Highway Driving Assist, and more.
